I hate this weather. No, I REALLY hate this weather. Yesterday it was 98 degrees in Hotlanta and our poor air conditioning unit is laboring mightily to keep up. I’ve often said that the inventor of air conditioning was my hero and yesterday I found out who that was. His name was Willis Carrier and he submitted plans for air conditioning in … 1902! It’s astonishing that the technology has been around for 114 years.
Of course, the original design isn’t much like today’s units. Still, he correctly concluded that the unit had to perform four functions:
1.) control temperature
2.) control humidity
3.) control air circulation and ventilation
4.) cleanse the air
When I feel that cool air circulating through my home and office, I sent a silent prayer of “Thank you” to Willis Carrier. And, I count the days until the first cool days of autumn. :-)
