We are adding a new shop to BlissPlan so that we can sell our cross stitch patterns and gorgeous printable goodies. Some of them will be in zip files. For instance, this wonderful Halloween design has four patterns in it and the best way for cross stitchers to download it is via the zip file since it includes four patterns. So, the question is: what in the world is a zip file and how do I open it?
What Is A Zip File?
A Zip file is a compressed file that is used to make large files and collections of files more manageable to the user. The data is compressed to reduce the file size. Multiple files can be combined into a single Zip folder, making it easier to download.
The Zip file format makes sharing documents and files much easier. For example, if you bought twenty separate documents they can be compressed them all into a single .zip file so you don’t have to download all 20 of them individually.
How Do I Open A Zip File On My Windows Computer?
The operating system will automatically open any Zip file. This has been the case since 2002 and the introduction of Windows XP.
Go to Computer/My Computer and locate the file ==> click on the Zip file ==> right click ==> Extract All
If you simply click on the file, you will be able to see the contents but the file will remain zipped.
How Do I Open A Zip File On My Mac Computer?
Just like Windows, the Mac operating system will automatically open a Zip file.
Click “Finder” ==> browse to the location of your ZIP ==> double-click the ZIP file to extract its contents.
The contents of the ZIP file are automatically extracted to a new folder with the same name and in the same location as the ZIP file. Open this new folder to view its contents and access the files contained within it.
