If you are thrilled by the spectacular beauty and pure awesomeness (is there such a word? :-) of meteor showers, then check our your skies from August 11-13 for the best show of the year. It's called the Perseids and it's a meteor that is exceptionally bright in August because it meanders through a lot of shattered comet dust. Of course, that's not the only time you can see Perseid but it's the peak time.
One 'problem', though – this is also the time of the "Supermoon" when it's approximately 30% brighter than normal. This brilliant light, of course, makes it harder to see the meteor. The moon itself, though, is spectacular.
And darn it, it was cloudy in Atlanta last night so I couldn't see a darn thing. I'm hoping for better results tonight.
