I’ve been feeling the need for some intellectual stimulation lately and so I’ve dragged out some of my many puzzle books to stir up the neurons. Puzzles are a marvelous and FUN way to get the cerebral juices flowing. Here’s a fun and easy one from 101 Puzzles in Thought and Logic. See how you do?
Shorty Minelli was murdered and by nightfall the police had 3 suspects in custody. Here are their statements.
1. I didn’t do it.
2. I never saw Joey before.
3. Sure, I knew Shorty.
Joey:
1. I didn’t do it.
2. Buck and Tippy are both pals of mine.
3. Buck never killed anybody.
Tippy:
1. I didn’t do it.
2. Buck lied when he said he’d never seen Joey before.
3. I don’t know who did it.
Each suspect made ONE false statement. Who is the murderer?
There’s a hint below if you need it.
Tippy has to be innocent because #1 and #3 would both be false if he was the murderer. Since only one statement is a lie, then those two have to be true which means #2 is a lie. You can figure it out from there.
