Every summer there are multiple stories of kids and pets suffering from heat stroke because they are left in cars. Did you know that heat stroke can happen when it's only 57 degrees outside? I was shocked by this and didn't know it until I started doing research on a totally avoidable tragedy.
How To CAUSE Heatstroke
Obviously, leaving a child in a car while we 'just run in the store for a minute' is sometimes tempting. I remember when my kids were that small and they had finally fallen asleep just as I reached the store! Argh! What to do, especially if they're cranky and you desperately need a few moments of peace?
Here are some sobering facts you might not know …
* It only takes 10 minutes for the interior temperature of a car to become 20 degrees higher
* Your car can become 110 horrifying degrees even when the outside temp is in the 60s
* Children's temperatures increase five time faster than adult temps
* When a kid's temperature reaches 107 degrees, a fatality is almost certain
So don't leave your children and pets alone in a car – EVER. And teach your kids not to play in a car. It is too easy for a little one to get trapped inside even when your car is at home.
