Let’s face it: how to clean mini blinds isn’t anyone’s all-time favorite subject. We’ve all seen those attractively streamlined mini blinds at our local home improvement centers. They look terrific in their displays, but after staring at them for a minute, many of us ask, “Yes, but what about the dust?”, and walk away.
But with a little ingenuity, you can outsmart the dust that collects on your mini blinds, and enjoy the accent and energy savings they bring to your home.
6 Ways To Clean Those Annoying Dirty Slats
#1: The mini blind pros, once a week, simply close the slats on their blinds and wipe them down with dust-attracting lamb’s wool. The lanolin in lamb’s wool will also leave a thin, dust-repelling residue on the blinds.
#2: Can’t find lamb’s wool? Place newspapers beneath the blinds to contain any falling dust, and go to work with a soft-bristle paintbrush. If you’re still not satisfied with their cleanliness, you can simply remove them and head for the bath tub.
#3: If you’re cleaning kitchen min blinds and confronted with grease, first spray the blinds well with an all-purpose cleanser, letting it work for several minutes to loosen the grease. Then wipe them with a soft cloth which your rinse frequently. You’ll have to flip the blinds over and repeat the process on the other sides, where the loosened grease will have dripped.
#4: If you are really in a hurry, consider slipping on a pair of cotton gloves moistened with a solution of a teaspoon of ammonia diluted in a quart of water, and running your fingers over the slats.
#5: Then there’s the handy-dandy vacuum cleaner, with those hose attachments which you very seldom use. You can vacuum the blinds, and you won’t even have to take them down.
#6: And the final dust-busting secret? Wiping the blinds down with a fabric-softening dryer sheet will eliminate static buildup, which is one big reason they get dusty in the first place!
But the good news, as you can see, is that how to clean mini blinds isn’t as terrible as it could be. Well, not too bad, anyway! :-)
