This is the kind of produce we should all be promoting and eating. It’s a lettuce mix called “Lettuce Buy Local”. It’s a mix of three lettuces:
1. Romaine
2. Green Lollo
3. Red Lollo
Pesticide free: the farm that grows this is local but it’s spreading all over the southeast, according to their website. They use no chemicals at all when growing their produce.
Non GMO: every bite of corn and soybeans, and their derivative products, that we put in our mouth is almost certain to be genetically modified, so I’m delighted that this lettuce is not.
Water use: according to their website, they use “90% less water than traditional farming methods”. [http://lettucebuylocal.com/our-products]
More nutritious: since the lettuce is grown in my area, it gets to the stores much quicker and will last longer than lettuce grown in other areas. It’s more nutritious because the older product is, the less vitamins and minerals it has because they start to break down.
Already washed and ready to eat: naturally I like that part. :-)
You are almost certain to have these kinds of local farms in your area. This way of eating is rapidly spreading in popularity so promote these folks whenever you can. It’s good for them and it’s definitely best for you and your family.
